Warning for October 14th Staff Council Meeting: special election and bylaw revisions + call for additional agenda items

Special election for Treasurer Position

In late August, our recently re-elected Treasurer, Jessica Chappel, left the College

As per the bylaws: In the event of the resignation or removal of an Officer or member of the Executive Committee, the President shall appoint a replacement if the remaining term of office is less than one year. If the term of office exceeds one year, the President shall appoint a nominating committee and a special election for the new member or officer shall be held at the next regular meeting of the membership.

Special nominating committee found Kenzie Bruso interested in returning to the Staff Council Executive Board

As there is only one candidate, we will hold a voice vote at October 14th meeting

Staff Council Bylaws Revisions

The By-Laws had some minor grammar edits as well as a few areas of clarification and updating. These can be found in the K:drive  K:Staff Council/By-laws/Staff Council By-laws approved Nov 30, 2011_Proposed2014EDITS

There was a question if we should we change who is included in staff council meetings? Staff Council Executive Board’s recommendation is to keep the By-Laws as is which allows open participation in staff council meetings but limits who can vote and who can run for office. Additionally it is our recommendation to remind/educate the community that we can enter into an executive session per our By-Laws and in accordance with Robert Rules of Order. This allows us to keep an open forum, yet provide a safe space if needed.

The Executive Committee of Staff Council will meet on October 7th to finalize the October Staff Council meeting and we’d appreciate your ideas:

What updates would you like to receive?

Who would you like to meet or hear from?

Do you have something you would like to share with Staff?

Send Christina your items by October 6, 2014 and we’ll see you at the Staff Council Meeting on: Tuesday – October 14, 2014; 8:30 to 9:30 AM; Lakeside 101/102
